The Urban Retro Playlist

I must be honest when I initially listened to the full Purpose album by Justin Bieber late last year I didn't give it a fair chance. I just decided I wouldn't like it and carried that mind until I listened to it subsequently with a more open mind.

I must confess it had a lot more direction and I got that the full project embodied a lot and Justin Bieber was transitioning sound wise and very well. If you remeber "Boyfriend" which he released awhile ago (written by Mike Posner) when I heard it I felt that sound may actually suit him. Fast forward to hearing the smash hit "Where Are You Now?" originally from Skrillex and Diplo's Jack U album  which also appears on the Purpose album. This apparently was where Justin found clarity with Skrillex after struggling with putting the album together.

The general sound is a mix of EDM, Pop, Dance Techno, House and the Tropical vibes that featured on and off the project most likely influenced by Skrillex. The project was a redemptive one in the sense that it put him back on track musically and the content were based on faith, forgiveness, upliftment among other things. In songs like Sorry, What Dou You Mean and was particularly apparent in Love Yourself (which was written by Ed Sheeran which is one of if not my absolute favorite song off the project). I can't deny how much I've enjoyed the project, so I decided to make a playlist off it of the songs I played the most.

I've for some reason had the urge to raze the roof, I'm sure you must have had that feeling as well.

But with this particular feeling I've been craving music along the lines of house and electronic music that type thing. So I went on to create a playlist with a couple of songs that fit that aesthetic, funny enough all the songs are collaborative. Hope you get some good vibes and you enjoy the tracks.

So today I've got one of the craziest songs I heard all of last year in terms of dancehall which is "Look Like You Afro Remix" by Dj Tjaey. One of my friends actually put me on this song and at the time and I couldn't get enough of it.

The song was originally performed by Grizzy and M-Dargg, then Dj Tjaey just jumped on it, transformed the grime vibe into an Afro pop one and mixed it up too well. He worked with a couple of samples, looped them and produced this electrifying sound. Once you're listening to the song the drums alone would begin to move you to dance and if you're alone you'll probably be misbehaving even. 

Funny thing is he's still up and coming, but I hope he has more fire projects like this one in the works and hope they would be out soon. 

Basically, the song speaks about support and love. It's meant to relate to what ever situation you're going through based on how you choose to see it. I didn't realize I had been listening to the song and I wasn't sure what the said in one part of the song, until I was play Nba 2016 I think and then I heard the song in the game and they kept censoring a part of the song and I wondered why? 

Then I finally did some extensive research and ended up liking the song even more. What they were censoring was "blow a kiss, fire a gun" the fire a gun part to be precise. In the original song the tempo was slower and it we like "blow a kiss, as you fire a gun" it makes more sense now right? Big ups to Dj Snake for increasing the tempo I think that's something that really made it such a big hit.

Also, the song was initially offered to Rihanna and Nicki Minaj and they both turned it down, I mean another reason why I think it's such a big hit and when I read that I was really inspired I thought at that moment "You don't need the biggest person to do something big..." 

The other thing that inspired me were the song actually debuted very low on the billboard chart but peaked at number 4, other than topping chart in numerous countries, it's presently the highest streamed song on Spotify with over 600 million streams. Then when I listen to the song I don't understand the euphoric feeling it gives me, then when I just pause to think about it there's something special about it but I can't just point it out. Maybe it's the house vibe or something but it calm and upbeat at the same time I would just conclude with the irony.

Finally, happy new year everyone! I've decided I'm going to write like I know I have plenty readers and I'm addressing them from now on, I don't know why I feel like not a lot of people read this but it doesn't matter I'll just keep writing anyway and Consistency 😏.
